JGU Launches Sustainable Development Report 2024 in Tokyo

Tokyo, Japan, June 24: O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) launched its Sustainable Development Report (SDR) 2024 in Tokyo, Japan, at the India-Japan Higher Education Forum on June 21, 2024. The report was officially released by His Excellency Sibi George, Ambassador of India to Japan, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. This significant event highlights the strengthening relationship between India and Japan, especially in education and sustainability. The release aligns with JGU’s ongoing dedication to sustainability and international collaboration, particularly with leading Japanese universities. The SDR 2024 details JGU’s advancements in integrating sustainable practices throughout its campus and curricula, underscoring the university’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Professor (Dr) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor of JGU, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are delighted to launch the JGU Sustainable Development Report 2024 globally in Japan, emphasizing the importance of India-Japan relations and recognizing Japan’s remarkable contributions to advancing SDGs both nationally and internationally. Our commitment to sustainability is central to our educational philosophy. The SDR 2024 not only highlights our past achievements but also outlines a dynamic pathway for future initiatives. It aligns with global sustainability trends and our aspirations to contribute positively to the global community. Our international collaborations with 10 leading Japanese universities will also focus strongly on sustainability issues.”

Ambassador Sibi George underscored the critical role universities play in strengthening India-Japan relations, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and academic exchange. He commended JGU’s proactive leadership in establishing significant academic partnerships with Japanese universities, setting a commendable example for institutions in both countries. The Ambassador highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering cultural understanding and promoting bilateral cooperation between India and Japan. He also emphasized the need to further expand the higher education footprint in both countries, recognizing the immense untapped potential.

In recent months, JGU has formalized substantial partnerships with several leading Japanese universities, including the University of Yamanashi, Yamanashi Gakuin University, Hiroshima University, Ritsumeikan University, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Kansai Gakuin University, Kansai Gaidai University, and Ryukoku University.
