MOSCOW: Russia declared on Sunday that the United States was “directly responsible” for a missile attack launched from Ukrainian territory, which killed at least five people, including three children, and injured 124 more in Crimea.

According to the Russian defense ministry, US specialists had determined the missiles’ flight coordinates using information from US spy satellites, implicating Washington directly.

The ministry stated that four of the US-delivered Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles, equipped with cluster warheads, were intercepted by air defense systems, while a fifth missile’s ammunition detonated mid-air.

“Responsibility for the deliberate missile attack on the civilians of Sevastopol lies primarily with Washington, which supplied these weapons to Ukraine, and with the Kyiv regime, from whose territory this strike was launched,” the ministry said.

Russian-installed authorities in Crimea reported that missile fragments landed just after noon near a beach on the north side of Sevastopol city, where locals were holidaying.

Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko confirmed that at least 124 people were injured, including 27 children, five of whom are in serious condition.
