On Tuesday, thousands gathered in Nairobi’s streets, urging legislators to reject the proposed taxes.

Videos from the parliament display overturned and damaged tables and chairs. Meanwhile, external footage captured scenes of fires, along with the deployment of tear gas and water cannons.

Protest chants included threats directed at politicians, and some parliament members had to escape the chaos through a tunnel.
