Scarlett Johansson Reveals Curiosity About Dolly Parton’s Tattoos at ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ Premiere

Scarlett Johansson’s latest film may delve into space exploration, but the actress has a different curiosity she’d like to investigate.

When asked about a conspiracy theory she finds intriguing apart from the moon landing, Johansson, 39, shared her interest in Dolly Parton’s body art.

“I don’t know. I’m so not a conspiracy theorist. I’m like, I really believe in science. I don’t know. I think probably that Dolly Parton has full tattooed sleeves,” she told PEOPLE at the world premiere of Fly Me to the Moon on Monday, July 8, at New York’s AMC Lincoln Square Theater.

With a sly smile, she added playfully, “Is it real? We’ll find out.” Johansson, who attended the event with her husband Colin Jost, has some insight into conspiracy theories since her latest project is inspired by the Apollo 11 moon landing and the belief that it was staged by the U.S. government.

In a September 2020 interview with PEOPLE, Parton, 78, confirmed that she has “some tattoos” and described them as “tasteful.”

“My tattoos are pretty, they’re artful, and they usually started out to cover some scar, not to make a big statement. Ribbons and bows and butterflies are the things that I have,” she said.

The country music legend explained that her tattoos turn something ugly into something beautiful. “I was very sick for a while, and I had to wear a feeding tube. It left a little indention in my side, and I didn’t like it because I’m so fair that scars turn purple on me,” Parton said. “I like to make positives out of negatives. I had a little beehive tattooed over it — a little yellow-and-brown beehive with a tiny little bee on top of the hive. The mouth of it is that little sinkhole.”

In Johansson’s latest project, she plays Kelly Jones, a marketing team member tasked with rehabilitating NASA’s public image. She stars alongside Channing Tatum, who plays launch director Cole Davis.

As both an actress and producer on the film, Johansson described her character as a “very modern woman living in a time where women were often underestimated.” “She uses that to her advantage and is always a few steps ahead,” she said, adding that the film itself is “totally original.” “It’s not derivative of anything else; it doesn’t follow a formula,” Johansson explained. “I think audiences haven’t been offered a big-idea movie that is both funny and poignant and original in a long time, and they are hungry for that. The film is totally entertaining and fresh. I’m very proud of it for its newness and scope.”

Johansson attended the premiere of the Greg Berlanti-directed project in a chic custom Prada top and skirt in faille vichy, with crystal embroidery trim and silver leather sandals.
