Ukraine reported on Saturday that Russia had conducted a “massive” overnight assault on energy infrastructure in the western and southern regions, resulting in the deaths of at least seven people from strikes elsewhere.

According to Ukraine’s military, Russia launched 16 cruise missiles from land, sea, and air, along with 13 attack drones, targeting energy infrastructure across several regions.

Ukraine’s air defenses intercepted all but four of these projectiles.

Russia’s defense ministry claimed responsibility for a coordinated strike using long-range, high-precision weaponry from the air and sea, as well as drones, specifically targeting Ukrainian energy facilities involved in arms production.

Additionally, the ministry stated that they struck warehouses containing munitions and “air-launched weapons supplied to the Ukrainian military by Western countries.”

The ministry asserted that all intended targets were successfully hit, framing these latest attacks as retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on Russia’s energy network.
