Hamas has stated that it regards President Joe Biden’s ceasefire proposal “positively,” raising hopes for a potential end to Israel’s eight-month conflict, which has resulted in the deaths of over 36,000 Palestinians, primarily women and children. President Biden describes the new Israeli proposal for a Gaza truce as “a roadmap to an enduring ceasefire and the release of all hostages,” emphasizing that “it’s time to end this war.” However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists on the destruction of Hamas as part of an Israeli plan presented by Biden. Since October 7, at least 36,284 Palestinians have been killed and 82,057 wounded in the conflict. The death toll in Israel from Hamas’s attacks stands at least 1,139, with dozens of individuals still held captive in Gaza.
