Germany: Knife Attack at Solingen City Festival Leaves 3 Dead, 8 Injured; Attacker at Large

Three people were killed, and eight others were seriously injured in a knife attack in Solingen, a city in western Germany, according to police reports. The attacker fled the scene, and authorities are still searching for the suspect, who remains unidentified. The motive behind the attack is yet to be determined.

The incident occurred during the city’s 650th-anniversary celebrations. Local mayor Tim Kurzbach expressed that those attending the event are experiencing “shock, horror, and deep grief.”

DJ Topic, who was performing at a nearby stage during the city festival, shared on Instagram that security informed him of the stabbing. To prevent panic, he was asked to continue his performance. “I kept playing, even though it was incredibly difficult,” he wrote. The music was stopped after about 10-15 minutes, and the crowd was notified of the situation. Topic, who hails from Solingen, stated that he hid in a nearby shop while police helicopters hovered above in search of the suspect.

The attack took place at the Fronhof, a market square in Solingen where live bands were performing.
