George Miller’s ‘Furiosa’ & Nicole Kidman’s ‘A Family Affair’ Top Home Viewing Charts

Although Australian director George Miller and recent AFI Life Achievement Award winner Nicole Kidman have only collaborated once (on the animated film “Happy Feet”), they share a notable distinction this week: their most recent films are leading on their respective home viewing charts.

For Warner Bros. and Miller, the #1 status of the newly released “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is a welcome surprise, especially after its disappointing theatrical performance ($169 million worldwide, only $67 million in the U.S. and Canada). Unlike typical high-return PVOD releases, “Furiosa” is available for a $24.99 digital purchase price instead of the usual $19.99 rental fee. Kidman, whose diverse filmography includes works with Jane Campion and Lars von Trier as well as roles in “Batman Forever” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” stars in the rom-com “A Family Affair.” In this Netflix original, Kidman, at age 57, convincingly plays Zac Efron’s love interest, showcasing her enduring star quality and talent. The film debuted at #1 this weekend and is likely to maintain its top position for some time.

“Furiosa” has replaced John Krasinski’s family film “IF” (Paramount), which had a nearly twice as large domestic audience and topped both charts for one week. “IF” is now #2 on Fandango (ranked by revenue) and #3 on iTunes (transaction-based).
