FBI Identifies Assailant in Attempted Assassination of Former President Trump at Pennsylvania Rally

The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as the assailant in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania. The 20-year-old, who was fatally shot by Secret Service agents, was a registered Republican according to state voter records. Authorities have not yet determined a motive.

Trump’s campaign reports that he is “doing well” after being escorted off the stage with blood on his ear and cheek following the shooting. One rally attendee was killed, and two other spectators were critically wounded in the incident.

Mike Johnson, Speaker of the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, announced that panels in the chamber will soon call in officials from the Secret Service, the Department of Homeland Security, and the FBI for hearings.

Politicians from all sides have expressed support for Trump, with President Joe Biden stating that “there’s no place for this kind of violence” in the US. Leaders from around the world have also condemned the attack.
