The iPhone 16 series, including all four models expected this September, will feature a “larger graphite sheet within the chassis,” according to the report.
Now, I understand that a sheet of graphite doesn’t sound particularly exciting. It’s not going to make the iPhone look as cool as the titanium casing did for the iPhone 15 Pro, or as striking as the new color anticipated for the iPhone 16 Pro. But as we’ve often been told, looks aren’t everything, and this sheet is internal, so it won’t be visible. Its purpose is to enhance the thermal capabilities of the upcoming iPhones. This addition might be designed to address the overheating issue that emerged with the iPhone 15 series, which was resolved with a software update. Apple undoubtedly wants to avoid any association with “overheating issues” in future releases, even though the problem was fixed without throttling the phones.
iPhone 16’s Hidden Upgrade: Larger Graphite Sheets Boost Performance and Cool Down Overheating Issues
An internal graphite sheet could effectively solve this problem or improve thermal efficiency, potentially impacting battery performance or processor responsiveness.
If the reports are accurate, the iPhone 16 series will also see numerous other upgrades. These include varied displays on certain models, broader use of the latest tetraprism camera, a new strategy for next-generation processors, more advanced camera lenses, more efficient OLED displays, a new microphone to enhance Siri, and an improved main camera sensor.
It’s these internal upgrades that can quietly transform the capabilities of the next iPhone.
