The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Friday that their website is now open for submissions to be considered for the 2025 Oscars.
Currently, the Academy is accepting general entries (including best picture and other categories), animated features, animated shorts, documentary features, documentary shorts, international features, live action shorts, original scores, and original songs.
Submissions have varying deadlines between August 15 and November 14, depending on the category and the qualifying run date. General entries, animated features, documentary features, and short films have two different deadlines: one for submissions that qualified before July 1 and another for those that qualified on or after that date.
The 97th Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Early contenders include the spring indie film “Challengers,” the summer blockbuster “Inside Out 2,” Cannes standouts “Anora,” “Emilia Pérez,” and “The Substance,” as well as “Sing Sing,” a drama that premieres in theaters today.
At the 2024 Oscars this past March, “Oppenheimer” was named best picture and won six other awards, including best director for Christopher Nolan, best actor for Cillian Murphy, and best supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr. Best actress was awarded to Emma Stone for “Poor Things,” and best supporting actress went to Da’Vine Joy Randolph for “The Holdovers.”
